Let the Good Times Roll

The results this year have been coming thick and fast, and not just from the top guys. We have had good results from all the riders. Lets hope that they continue into the second half of the season. Here are just a few of the highlights,

Road Racing: 30 top ten places including 8 wins, 6 seconds and 4 third places.

Time Trials:  20 top tem places including 1 win, 4 seconds and 3 third places

An incredible start by any standard, and if this was not enough, we have the following prize winners:

  • Graham Rushworth – National VTTA 25’ Champion in the 40-49 age group.
  • Richard Dean – Bronze medalist - Yorkshire Division Road Championship
  • Alex Wallis, Alex Roelich, Levi Huck – Team Winners GHS District 10’ Final
  • Rebecca Dawson – Fastest Woman – Rutland Open 10’
  • Mark Wordsworth, Adam Weaver – Finishing the Lincoln International GP

There are many more but so little space, so congratulation to all those who have been successful this year. A full list of results is available on the Web site.

Sizzler Satisfies Yet Again - Rudy Project District Round 13th June 2004

Yet again Trevor (Sizzler) Siddons and his helpers yet again pulled off a master stroke with yet another successful running of the Sporting Course event based at North Wheatley. A reasonable sized field was warmly welcomed with tea and buns, and a testing course. No accidents and only good comments received, a recipe for future success. The Wheelers won the team prize for the 1 lap event, but were not able to make the individual prize lists. There’s always next year. However the results for this year were as follows:

Many thanks go out to all those who gave up their time to ensure the smooth running of the event. We received an email congratulating us on such a well num event, so all your work does pay off in the end. You were so good, we will need to call on all your services again next year!

Tuesday Testing

The Club 10’s have been very well supported this year, some night approaching fields worthy of an open event. Many thanks go to all those Wheelers who have been riding and to those who freely give their time to marshal at Blaxton or to time keep. All the results are being posted on the Club web site.

Young Wheelers Dominate - GHS 10’ North Midlands District Final

A report by Alex Roelich

The GHS 10 was held on Tuesday 15th June, on our very own Hatfield/Blaxton course. The event was well run by Thurcroft cc, and although the conditions weren’t ideal, the three Wheelers all clocked good times on the windy and cool evening. The Wheelers achieved 1st place in the team classification, beating nearest rivals Sheffield Phoenix by over 4 minutes.
Levi Huck clocked 24-23, a time good enough for 3rd place overall, Alex Wallis set a new personal best with his ride of a short 27’ with which he narrowly missed out taking the 13 year old age catagory, and myself (Alex Roelich) who clocked a 25-09, but this time took the 15 year olds category. Ben Swift (another team) rode to victor, his 23-08 enough to hold back the challenge of Rossington Wheelers rider Richard Lambert, who clocked a time of 23-38.

Overall, I am immensely pleased of how the DWCC Junior element faired with the rest of North Midlands, and I look forward to riding the final event at Boroughbridge in September, with my two Wheelers club mates. We would like any support that could travel up to cheer us on. Thank you to all the DWCC riders who stayed behind after their Club 10’ to cheer us on as we started.”

Well done lads and best of luck for the final in September. The FUTure of the wheelers, lets not forget them.

Thoroughly Modern

The new team clothing has gone down very well, with sales nearly out stripping what we had had ordered. It has been so popular that we have had to place a second order due to the demand and time required to process it. At the moment there are plenty of short sleeved tops with the next order due in August. Contact Don Valley Cycles for details.

Fancy a Video?

Well, if you have a broadband connection to the Internet, check out our new section on the Club web site. We now have streaming video of some of our events and other races I have gathered video. Just select the video and wait for it to start. Each video has a sound track so connect the speakers, turn up the volume and sit back. I will add more video as time to set it up allows.

Speaking of video, there is a new cycling tv station on the Internet, www.cycling.tv, if you have a good broadband connection, there is some good content, Lincoln GP, Aussie Track Champs etc. and all free.

Another Promotional Success - Don Despatch Road Race – Friday June 19th

The rain that had hug around all day cleared for the race but this seemed to put some of the riders off. With a reduced field, although not in quality with the likes of Malcom Elliot and John Tanner riding, a spirited race ensued. An early break away contained the Downing brothers who stayed clear and crossed the finishing line together to take the Don Despatch Road Race. Club riders showed well throughout the race. Many thanks go to Martin Maltby for his organisation and to all the helpers and marshals at the race itself.

1st R. Downing and D. Downing
3rd P. Hey
4th M. Wordsworth    (Doncaster Wheelers)
5th M. Elliot

9th B Hughes
10th M. Wheeldon       (Doncaster Wheelers)

All Nighter Anyone?

Its that time of year again when I try to beg, bully or bore equipment savvy club members into an expenses paid trip to help out in the National 24 Hour Championship in Shropshire on 24th/25th July. Its quite a laugh really just like the Majorca all nighters but without the beer. Free Pro Plus and an experience you'll never forget for all takers. Even half a day would be appreciated. Keeping in Contact

If like me, you cycle but don’t often get to ride with others and catch up with all the gossip, then why not use our very own Message Forum on the Club web site. Just go to Services on the menu, and select Message Forum. To post a message you will have to register your name etc, but it only takes a minute, and its purely for administration purposes. Just let your fingers do the talking. Use it to ask questions, post up results, or just air your views. All that is asked is that you keep it clean and social. Remember it will act as advertising to prospective new members.

Nosh Time Again

This years Prize Presentation will take a different format to the last few years. It will be on Saturday 27th November at the  Earl of Doncaster. It will be a sit down meal (no fancy dress) and cost has yet to be confirmed but will be around £20. We will need approximately 100 people attending to make this a viable affair. Please mark this date in your diaries. More details to follow.

Further Promotions

A new road race is to be promoted this year on Sunday 26th September. It will be based at ZINIZ restaurant Bawtry and open to 4th Category riders only. It is hoped that a social function of some sort will take place for all, after the event, with team photos taken with everyone in the new kit. More details will be given closer to the event.
