New Look for 2004

Well here it is after a long design and development programme, the new club design for 2004 (and the next few years after that). A re-design was require to allow more options to place our new sponsors etc. The club badge has been retained, but repositioned on the shoulders for all to see, still leaving enough room for the sponsors. A happy compromise for all.

Club Clothing

The order for new club clothing is now in and we expect it to arrive early to middle of April. The order had to be cut back a little because of cost but there should be enough to go round initially. We need to sell the clothing in order to get money back into the club so get your order in early. The price has yet to be decided by the committee but hope to sell it for as near cost price as possible.

When the club clothing does arrive we plan to have a publicity photo shoot of club members in the new gear outside ZENIS restaurant at Bawtry and try to get it published in Cycling Weekly, will keep you informed of progress.

 Getting on the Right Track

The organised trip to Manchester Velodrome was well attended by the Wheelers, with 17 making the trip. All those who had never experienced riding the indoor track before were shown how by the resident coach, and by the end were mixing it with the rest.  The level of enjoyment could be measured from the comments at the end, which ranged from ‘Brilliant’ to ‘When are we doing this again?’ many thanks to all those who supported this trip.

Club 10s

The club 10s start every Tuesday from 27th April to 24th August 04, start 7pm except the last one which starts at 6.30pm. Volunteers for Marshall’s will be required at the Blaxton turn, please inform Trevor Siddons of your availability. Although Bud Kendell and his team have done a magnificent job in the past we cannot go on forever relying on the same people all the time, so please come forward and do your duty.

Supporting Wayne were Michael Hope, Chris Green, Adam Weaver and Jack Ibbotson. All finished on what was a very hard day with strong cross winds.

A funny thing happened on the way to the Forum…

This has nothing to do with Frankie Howard or the Romans, but for those connected to the Internet, we do have available a message board set up on the Club website. You can find it on the top menu, under ‘Services’, then Message Forum. If you want to post us your results, send in some news for the club letter or just ask a question then this would be a handy area to do it.

Results and Publicity

Because we cannot cover every situation, it would be useful if members would inform Martin Maitby at the shop or Trevor of any results involving club riders so that we can get maximum publicity in the local press, preferably on Sunday night or early Monday morning. We hope that in the near future we will have a volunteer to act as club publicity officer.

From the fast to the not so fast…

From reporting of the fast ‘lads’, we come to those who for one reason or another are not able to go quite as fast as they would like to. The first is one of our long serving members,Terry Hibbit. He was taken ill while out on the bike recently, we are not sure of the problem but he cannot drive his motor caravan yet or ride his bike, and at the moment he is awaiting the result of tests. We all hope you are feeling better soon Terry, and once again terrorising the nation in the van and by bike.

Phil Henson was knocked of his bike recently and sustained a broken collarbone. He was on his way to meet the club at the library when a car pulled across him from the right coursing him to crash over the boot of the car. Phil is on the mend and hopes to be fit for the Majorca trip. Get well soon Phil.

Majorca Trip

12 members are making the annual pilgrimage to Majorca this year leaving on the 24th April 04 hopefully to take advantage of some nice sunny weather.

Club Records

We are at the moment trying to compile a list of club racing records. Although we have most of the records we seem to be missing details of the fantastic efforts of Fliss Beard and her tricycle, before her tragic death. If anyone has such information we would be only too happy to receive it so that a complete set of records can be collated.

Reminder

The club sporting course event on the 13th June, which is part of, the Rudy Project series please support this event this year either by riding it or marshaling. Bob Corfield has kindly offered to sponsor the event again this year with the addition of Moorfield Builders thanks to all.

Road race on the 11th June the same applies as above, riders and marshal’s see Martin Maltby for details.

A last Reminder

Many thanks to all those who have paid their due to the club, but to all those for whom it has just ‘slipped’ from memory, may I remind you that club fees were due at the end of February, and as such are now overdue. Please make any cheques to ‘Doncaster Wheelers’ and post to me or drop in at Don Valley Cycles.

 If only it were true…

“The ordinary “horseless carriage” is at present a luxury for the wealthy; and although its price will probably fall in the future, it will never, of course, come into as common use as the bicycle.”
