Welcome to the 17th Club
Letter of my reign as editor in charge. Its been a busy
end to the year and there is a lot of news to get
through. We have reports on Club Championship events,
Open events and the goings on at the AGM, which a lot of
you seem to miss. Its just the same old faces every
time. Anyway let’s get on with the news before I get on
my high horse. But to all those who made it to the AGM,
many thanks.
We had two raiding parties
out on the rampage in September, Martin Maltby, Chris
Green, Andy Hurst etc. made a forage to the World Road
Championships in Poulay, France. By all accounts a good
trip was had by all. The second raiding party of myself,
Paul Wheeler and Peter Hurst surfaced at the World Track
Championships in Manchester. A fabulous week of racing,
with a great atmosphere, along with some British
success, and a world record to boot by Mr. Boardman no
less. If you get a chance to visit, its worth it. Now
maybe that’s an idea for a Club Outing? Hmmmmm Now
there’s a thought, a Doncaster Wheeler Track day! Let’s
on now to the news………

Welcome to New Members
We
have nine more new members to welcome, Gordon Cornwall,
Kevin Poskitt, John & Alex Roelich, William Connolly,
Don Saunderson, Colin Hinds,Robert Hinchliffe & Chris
Morrey. From all of us at the Doncaster Wheelers, may
your stay be long and enjoyable.
Anyone
notice the name Roelich in the new members? Well, if you
do, it’s not a coincidence. They are related to E
Roelich, an Hon. Life Member of the Wheelers. John is
his son and Alex his grandson. We hope they stay with us
as long. Its not many clubs that can show three
generations of the same family in the club at the same
time. By all accounts Alex (a schoolboy), shows lots of
promise and is very keen. It would be nice if we had a
few younger ones to join him.
Welcome to New Arrivals
Yes,
they are all at it again. Special congratulations are
sent to Richard & Theresa Miall who have been joined by
the arrival of a new addition to their family.
Congratulations from all of us at DWCC. So now keep an
eye out for 2½ bikes on the Audax trail. We would also
like to thank them both for their work in organising
Audax events this year. These events are enjoyed by so
many people.
Club Championship 100
Mile Time Trial (NMCF 100 3rd Sept)
Only
two riders entered this event. On a bright but slightly
breezy day myself and Peter Hurst tamed the conditions
and survived to fight again, (Peter was heard to say
“Never Again!”, but I think I’ll change his mind). The
final outcome was a great first time effort from Peter
of 4hr 28min 57sec, and Dale Coan 4Hr 35min 13sec (5th
Handicap and NCU Trophy for fastest North Midlands rider
on Handicap.). Well done Peter.
Pooled Clubs 25Mile Time
Trial (24th Sept)
The
season came to close with the usual late season pooled
clubs event. Two Club members entered, Steven Brown and
myself again. Although advertised as a 25 mile event,
due to delayed roadworks, because of the petrol
shortage, it was very hastily reorganised on the morning
of the event to a 10 mile time trial. The weather was
not the seasons best but both riders were quite
satisfied with their respective times. Congratulations
to Steven on his first open event, and a good ride not
having ridden the course before (a hopeful addition to
our team for next year. Anyone else care to race as
well?). Final times were S. Brown 25:04 D. Coan 23:47

weather and more…..

Does this quote reflect the weather or
rise in membership fees? Think about it?
Tis that Slippy Season Again
Our best wishes and a speedy recovery go out to George
Miles. It seems that he has gone of the rails
and come unstuck on railway crossings near Kirk Bramwith
leading to Barnby Dun. By all accounts he has broken his
cheekbone and sustained facial injuries. We hope by the
time you read this you will be back home from hospital
and on track to recovery.
