Welcome to Issue 16.

Welcome to New Members

We have six more new members to welcome, Glen Allott, Steven Brown, Dawn Wren, Kevin Avery, David Holder & Ron Moat. From all of us at the Doncaster Wheelers, may your stay be long and enjoyable.

Don Valley Cycles Road Race

Another successful promotion by Martin Maltby. On a fine night the event went of smoothly. A big Thankyou to all those who helped in any way. Chris Green who managed to finish in the bunch and our top roadman Peter Hinchcliffe who managed a top three placing flew our own club flag.  The top three placings were as follows:

1st Mark Wordsworth (Dinnington RC)

2nd Peter Hinchcliffe (Doncaster Wheelers)

3rd Michael Hope (Pete Read Racing)

The event ended with a profit of £106.50, which goes into Club funds. A great performance after an even better performance in the North Midlands Road Race Championship where he managed the Silver medal place, just being beaten by Glyn Shirley of Rutland CC. He was close to clinching the title but mechanical problems dogged him in the final stages of the race. Peter has also been in good form in other local events getting plenty of top ten placings. We wish him every success for the rest of the season. Not wanting to be left out, Chris Green recently produced his first win of the season in the Otley Fish & Chippers Road Race, congratulations.

Club Championship 50 Mile Time Trial

Only two riders again managed to enter this event, (disappointing again after last years turnout). All this was to no avail as this year’s downturn in entries forced the cancellation of this event. The organiser received only 18 entries in total. A poor show, in what was a local event for local riders. The Club Championship has now been reset to be the Sharrow 50 on Sunday 23rd July.Late News:. Result of Championship 50’ 1st Peter Hurst 2:04 2nd Trevor Siddons 2:18Peter also won the 2nd Handicap prize with a 4min improvement on his personal best time, Congratulations.

Majorca 2001

If you read the Majorca feature in our last Newsletter, then you will have noted that preparations are under way for the 2001 camp. If you are interested then this is your last call for you to book as numbers are wanting to be finalised. If you are interested pleas contact Martin at Don Valley Cycles or John Davis.

Triathlons Anyone?

Not content with bashing around a hilly time trial into wind on a cold day, some people are gluttons for punishment! They also want to swim 750m, bike 20Km and then run 5Km one after another! Strange people. Seriously we have six members of the Wheelers giving this branch of sport a go in the Hatfield Triathlon on Sunday 30th July at 10am. We now have a small number of triathletes in the club and we welcome them all. Just remember Lance Armstrong started out as a triathlete and just look at what he has achieved now. Best of luck to those taking part.

 A Warm Welcome from……..

I had a letter from Alan Reeves recently and he wishes me to pass on his best regards to all those who know him in the Wheelers. He has recently moved to South Cockerington, Lincolnshire, and although he had a triple bypass operation 18mnths ago he still gets about 20 miles a day on the bike. Not bad for a 76 year old, and his main aim? to ride the Club Open 25 in 2002, sixty years after he first rode in the event!

All the Best Alan and we hope to see you in 2002
