What is a Time Trial?

Time trials involve a rider covering a set distance without taking pace from any other rider or vehicle. Events are also held for teams of 2,3 or 4, and as in individual rider time trials each team may not take pace from other teams, riders or vehicles. Each rider starts a minute apart with the race winner being the person with the quickest time.

Introduction

All you need to race is a road worthy bike and membership to a club affiliated to Cycling Time Trials, like Doncaster Wheelers. Time trial races in England and Wales are held under Cycling Time Trials (CTT) regulations. If you do not already have one, you are advised to purchase the current CTT Handbook (usually available from February each year). This contains all the information you need about time trialling and events being run during the year, it also contains more details on the areas discussed on this page. The handbook can be obtained direct from the CTT or from your club's time trial secretary. For Doncaster Wheelers, this is Trevor Siddons.

Club Membership

In order to compete in any event promoted by the CTT you must first become a member of an affiliated club. If you are not already a member of an affiliated club you can join Doncaster Wheelers today by filling in the downloadable application form from this site and posting it to the address on the form.

Minimum Age

As events are run on the public road, a minimum age limit of 12 has been set. All riders should have a good knowledge of the highway code. Individuals under the age of 18 must complete a parental consent form.
