Mallorca Trip 2000

April 7th –14th 2000,  Porta Pollenca

A group from the Doncaster Wheelers yet again set set sail for sunnier weather in the hope of building up those warm weather miles. Here’s what happened, from our reporter on the spot, John Davis.

Club Members were Trevor Siddons, John Davis, John Maughan, Brian Maughan, Keith Whittaker, Kris Roy, Adrian Hurst, Bob Corfield

Also along for the camp were John Dugher, John Heyes and Dave Wheatley.

Friday 7th April – (Sunny) Arrived Lunchtime, Assembled Bikes, Watched sprint finish of Amateur Tour of Majorca, on Pollenca front. Road to Lighthouse at Cap Formentor and back to stretch our legs. (26 Miles)

Saturday 8th April – (Cloudy) Steady Ride to Inca for lunch. Saw the Tour go through again. (54 Miles)

Sunday 9th April – (Sunny & Windy) Hard ride to Monastery of San Salvador. Lunch at Felantix. (89 Miles)

Monday 10th April – (Fine am – Rain pm) Road to bike shop in Binissalem. (52 Miles)

Tuesday 11th April – (Rain, Hail, Sun) Set out for Porto Cristo. Rain ahead. Cut of to Cala Bona & had fish & chips on the harbor in a torrential hail storm. Nice ride back on quiet lanes in the sun. (78 Miles)

Wednesday 12th April – (Sunny) Long climb up to Luc Monastery. Down Sa Colabra, and back up (very hard). (68 Miles)

Thursday 13th April – (Sunny) Hard ride through Orient Valley to Bunyola for lunch. (76 Miles) Keith Whittaker went on solo, up Soller Pas and Pug Major. 100 miles, What a Man! He is now known as Patch, due to the state of his tyres, and an unusual method of repair i.e. when your tyre gets cut or too thin, simply cut up your id tag and ride on for another 100 miles! He had to do the extra mileage to balance out the 20 lengths of swimming he did in the pool every night.

All in all, one brilliant trip. Total mileage 453miles. Well organized by Ideal Travel. Looking forward to next year. If you are interested then names in early to Martin Maltby or John Davis.
